Description:

The Point Alpha Foundation is taking care of the Memorial Point Alpha, which consists of the former U.S. Observation Post (OP) "Alpha" and the "House on the Border" both situated directly at the former inner-German border. The memorial conserves the memory of the era of the bloc confrontation in the area of the "Fulda Gap", the Cold War and the GDR border regime.
The Point Alpha Academy in Geisa offers seminars about the relevant topics of the Foundation as well as about other politically relevant topics.

Cold War Interests:

The exhibition in the "House on the Border" puts the development of the former inner-German border into the context of the Cold War. The possible military scenarios during the Cold War epochs in Europe are explained in animated installations.
This also was the focus of the First Point Alpha Colloquium in 2012; the results of this colloquium were published in the anthology "Schlachtfeld Fulda Gap - Strategien und Operationspläne der Bündnisse" which will be translated and published in the U.S., too. There is an existing cooperation with the University of Ohio in Athens/Ohio.
The foundation also possesses an extensive collection of photos and other exhibits about the Cold War.
